The context
In a Greek region renowned for its agricultural activities, a large farm was seeking an efficient way to optimize livestock diets.
The main challenge was to increase the nutritional value of the feed, thereby improving the health and productivity of the animals.
The company thoroughly evaluated various solutions to optimize the treatment of cereals intended for animal feed, while reducing anti-nutrients and enhancing nutrient assimilation.
The Winning Solution? The purchase of a Mecmar T50 roaster to integrate into their feed production line, enabling the production of 5 tons/hour of roasted soybeans.
The T50 solution
A machine that combines Italian agricultural tradition with the most modern roasting technologies. Installed at the feed production center, the roaster provided a versatile and powerful solution, capable of processing different types of cereals and legumes, significantly enhancing their nutritional quality.
Roasting is a crucial step in treating soybeans. In the process, it follows drying (and cleaning) and precedes grinding to produce feed with high energy and nutritional value.
After roasting, the legumes exit at a high temperature of around 120°C, requiring rapid cooling. Mecmar also assisted the customer in the design and supply of the cooler.
This feature is essential for stabilizing the cereals after heating, avoiding the risk of deterioration that can occur if the cereals remain too hot after roasting. The quick and uniform cooling ensured by the integrated cooler preserves the integrity and nutritional quality of the cereals, reducing the possibility of mold development and other pathogens.
In summary, the addition of the cooler has significantly improved production efficiency, allowing the customer to:
- Accelerate the production cycle and supply of consistently fresh and nutritious feed based on the farm’s needs
- Reduce feed costs by self-producing according to a nutritionist’s guidelines
- Control the quality of the feed within the production chain
Once roasted, the cereals are quickly cooled and brought to a temperature that facilitates handling, storage, and final use.
Additionally, by reducing the time needed to bring the cereals to room temperature, the overall energy consumption of the roasting process is decreased.
Other advantages of the T50 roaster
The solution, with its compact design, facilitates transport and positioning, allowing the farm to quickly and seamlessly integrate it into their production routine.
Moreover, the T50 minimizes trypsin inhibitors, substances that hinder protein digestion, without compromising the fat and vitamin content. This process also increases bypass proteins, crucial for more effective animal nutrition.
As a result, the treated cereals become not only more nutritious but also more palatable to the animals, improving their health and development.
Conclusion
The Mecmar T50 roaster proved to be a winning choice for the Greek farm, demonstrating how an investment focused on quality and innovation can lead to long-term benefits.
This technology has enabled the customer to successfully address the challenges related to livestock nutrition, while also introducing significant improvements in the farm’s work processes. With the T50 roaster, the company can now provide better and more nutritious feed to the animals, contributing to their healthier growth and increased overall productivity.
