The case

In the heart of the Italian countryside, a Mecmar customer of 30+ years, looking for innovative drying solutions, has found the answer in the continuity and reliability of Mecmar dryers. The family-run farm is located in the Verona area and produces about 1,500 tons per year of high-quality Carnaroli and Vialone nano type paddy rice for human consumption. Having used Mecmar dryers for more than three decades, the farm is an example of a concrete, direct and stimulating relationship between Mecmar and the end customer.

For years, agriculture has been subject to controlled investment, and the activity carried out by the farmer is no longer just operational, but increasingly linked to controlling the cost-effectiveness of all stages. Therefore, agriculture is an industry that requires targeted investments, attention to detail and efficient solutions.

If until a few years ago, a sturdy machine ready to work in all conditions was the requirement of all Mecmar customers, in recent years the needs have evolved by requiring dryers capable of controlling production and consumption, remotely.

The context

Agribusiness faces challenges such as climate and population growth, pushing toward sustainable Agriculture 4.0. This relies on digital technologies to analyze data collected in the field, improving decisions and economic, environmental and social sustainability. The Smart Agrifood Observatory thus defines the evolution toward more efficient and conscious practices.

Moreover, in recent years, agriculture has had to deal with a number of issues related to economic aspects, particularly the rising cost of agricultural raw materials and rising energy prices. In this context, Digital Innovation-particularly Agriculture 4.0-can help the agrifood sector manage these difficulties and make it more resilient, competitive, sustainable and transparent.

The evolution of agricultural technology requires the perfect combination of precision engineering and a deep understanding of farmers’ needs. Mecmar dryers embody exactly this philosophy, offering solutions specifically designed to maximize your production while ensuring convenience and mobility.

The choice

Combining the following needs, the choice fell on the mobile dryer mod. D 20/147 T2::

  • Dry about 70 tons per day of paddy rice;
  • Use tractor as the drive system to be able to place the dryer at different places in the yard;
  • Use gas burner for human feeding;
  • Be able to connect remotely to the dryer to be in constant contact with the machine;
  • Optimize working time and calculate consumption more accurately;
  • Be able to access financial support in the purchase of the dryer.

It is a medium-sized machine, with a diameter of 3 meters and a capacity of about 27m³, equipped with a burner of about 1,000,000 calories and requiring a tractor of about 70hp to operate. An electric generator located inside the transmission provides the electrical power to operate the large 15-inch touch screen panel, and the vacuum cleaner can clean the paddy from dust during drying.

Following the implementation of the Mecmar dryers, the customer reported significant improvements in the efficiency of the drying process. In addition, the design and technology used in the construction of the dryer ensures durability over the years and the need for low maintenance.

Solution focus: D20/147 T2 mobile dryer – direct flame with PTO drive

The D20/147 T2 dryer represents the pinnacle of flexibility. This model, designed with a direct flame drying system, is designed to provide farmers with the ability to quickly adapt to different situations.

Key advantages:

  • PTO drive. With PTO drive, the customer has the security of a flexible and practical drying solution that can be easily integrated with other farm equipment.

In this case, it is the tractor that provides useful power to operate the dryer components via the power take-off (PTO). In fact, dryers equipped with PTO drives offer flexibility in operations and allow the dryer to be used in locations where electrical or other power supply may not be available or practical. The customer is planning to expand the court: the D20/147 T2 dryer is so flexible that it can be placed and moved anywhere without being constrained by electrical connections.

  • Efficiency in the drying process. Direct flame technology ensures fast and efficient drying, guaranteeing high-quality grain ready for marketing or storage.

Portable direct-flame grain dryers prove to be the best choice for standard drying operations. Thanks to the ingenious design in which the combustion chamber is surrounded by a layer of fresh air, the efficiency is 100%. This means that every single unit of heat produced by the burner is directly channeled to the grain. There is no heat loss, as the dryer components do not absorb it.

  • Labor monitoring. Now the customer does not need to be physically in front of the machine to know how the cycle is progressing; another operator can manage the dryer while the customer monitors its operation via smartphone and dedicated app. Witness how Mecmar dryers are the result of years of research, innovation and feedback from industry professionals.

Published data refer to corn and are calculated with mathematical models that use clean and ripe products and in normal operating conditions with 120°C drying air temperature and one hour cool-down time. Please do not hesitate to contact the nearest Mecmar dealer for more information.
