In order to fully exploit the functions of a drying system, it is essential to take care of the correct management of its components: a more than decisive element, able to improve the performance of the machine and make the difference in terms of productivity.
Coming from a tradition as farmers working the land, Mecmar is well aware of the importance of having reliable equipment that works in any condition. For this reason, Mecmar has always focused on improving its dryers so that they can be used optimally, quickly, without waste, and with high quality levels of dried grain.
In order for an agricultural reality to reach its objectives, Mecmar manufactures dryers equipped with a variable level of automation. In fact, depending on the requests and the project provided by the end user, the dryer can be manual or include a high level of automation. In the latter case, operator work is minimized and grain processing is even more efficient.
How do the loading systems of Mecmar’s dryers fit into different contexts according to different needs? Let’s find out in this article!
Loading the drying system: how can it be done?
The standard dryer is supplied with loading from hopper or from pile. The standard hopper has a tank more than two meters long and allows the product to be loaded directly from a wagon or truck. Having a large capacity, the hopper allows the adjustment of the product to be loaded.
In addition, the presence of a grid at the inlet makes it possible to maintain safety requirements to avoid contact with the auger, as well as to keep outside the dryer those products that are too large – for example, leaves, branches, stalks – thus achieving a pre-cleaning of the grain before it is loaded into the dryer.
Standard hopper: this is certainly the most common system. In the transport position the hopper is positioned vertically to reduce the overall dimensions during transport.
In addition to this, it is possible to expand the capacity of the hopper by inserting some siderails. Other times an additional hopper is placed to facilitate loading.
This additional hopper acts as a buffer and facilitates loading when loading is carried out with a shovel or telescopic handler. As an alternative to the standard hopper, a heap hopper can be provided.
It is possible to supply the Customer with a plant equipped with a greater slope of the auger to allow the loading of the dryer through a pit hopper. In this way, the working environment will remain clean longer.
To further speed up the loading of freshly harvested grain, an external auger or elevator can also be used to keep the wet product separate from the dryer.
So we see that there are different loading modes of dryers developed over time to meet the various needs of farmers, as well as to provide a solution as customized as possible to get the best from careful attention to detail.
A more complex loading mode is given by a system equipped with a system that cleans the grain before it is introduced inside the dryer. The presence of this component of the dryer increases the performance of the plant: eventual residues and dust are eliminated in order to obtain a final product ready for the destination market.

Instead, what are the advantages of loading the product directly from a silo? The product is not wasted in any way while the operator works in a clean environment, away from the equipment drying the grain. In addition, when the loading auger stops, the grain will automatically stop coming out of the silo, thus interrupting the loading process. This last solution is available for all Mecmar plants.
Conclusion
In this article we have seen how to optimize the capacity and performance of a grain dryer thanks to proper management of its components, in particular, the loading phase of the system.
The grain enters the dryer by means of a pit hopper with an elevator system or a heap hopper. Once dried and cooled, the finished product is unloaded. Also the unloading of the system can take place in different ways and according to the specific needs of the Customer.
