Different high-performance grain drying technologies, conceived and designed according to our customers’ needs, which occupy little space and guarantee a high quality of the dried product: this is the mission of the entire Mecmar team.
With 60 years’ experience in the sector, we manufacture dryers and roasters for processing different types of grain. An investment that pays for itself over time, as these are solutions that last for decades, always operating at maximum power and efficiency.

A truly effective grain drying technology
The drying phase is fundamental to the proper processing and storage of cereals and oilseeds. This process serves precisely to keep variations in the raw material under control: the presence of too much water would in fact lead to degradation of the grain itself.
Moulds and alterations would not only endanger the preservation of the grain, but also its sale. Remember that a product of poor quality is also a product of poor value; therefore, its price in the commercial phase is strongly penalised.
To avoid this, it is a good idea to take care of grain drying. However, thinking of processing large quantities of cereals by opting for the traditional method (drying the grains in the sun) is no longer conceivable. It is better to prefer an artificial drying method, which involves the use of hot air as a means of lowering the moisture level to around 14%.
Mecmar’s grain drying technology therefore requires the moisture trapped in the grain to evaporate to make the product safe, by balancing speed and drying temperature. Thanks to the harmony between these two factors, it is possible to dry cereals optimally, without the risk of damaging them, thus guaranteeing higher profits from their sale.
Mecmar grain drying solutions: technology that lasts
Mecmar installations for drying cereals are based on the principle of air/heat balance. By regulating the temperature of the air circulating inside the machines, it is therefore possible to obtain an excellently dried product.
The water inside the kernel is pushed outwards and then evaporates and is expelled. It is thanks to the perfect balance of the air flow circulating within the plant, its temperature and pressure, that the most effective drying of the raw material can be guaranteed.
To remove moisture from grain, the quickest and most effective process is certainly that based on forced air ventilation. With this in mind, we at Mecmar have tested different types of technology over the years.
Inclined plane static dryers (as shown below): ideal for those who need to dry small quantities of grain through a slow and gentle process. The installation costs of the system are low, however a certain level of manual dexterity is required when loading and unloading the machine.
Drawer dryers: a suitable solution for small niche grain productions, the dryer is made of stainless steel, is very compact and does not require the use of fuel forms to heat the air. It is therefore the perfect machine for drying organic crops.
Mobile dryers: suitable for productions from 5 to 200 tonnes per day. This is a very popular solution among small and medium-sized customers. The machines require electricity or a tractor to operate and fuel (typically gas or diesel) to generate the hot process air.
Mobile dryers operate according to the batch concept. The plant is filled with product – this is dried and cooled – and then unloaded once ready for storage. The machine does not work 24 hours a day but only when your company needs it, depending on seasonality.
This solution is ideal for small batch productions or for large storage centres that need to accommodate the needs of customers who alternate between large productions of one type of grain and limited productions of different grains. Their flexibility makes them easily resalable and movable for drying product from one place to another.
Continuous tower dryers: for those who need to dry at least 200 tonnes per day. Ideal for collection centres, silent and equipped with heat recovery as all the air preheated in the cooling section is then heated to dry the product.
Tower dryers operate on a continuous cycle. Grain drying is non-stop: the raw material, still wet, is fed into the dryer at one end and only comes out at the other end once it has been dried and cooled. This solution is mainly used by large farms or storage centres.
Continuous dryers are therefore ideal for those who need to process large quantities of the same type of grain. Another feature that is particularly appreciated by those who have already purchased this type of machine is their low noise level. Thanks to the fan placed inside the tower dryers, the product circulating in the machine acts as a sound absorber, thus making the system less noisy.
